X-FAB Design Challenge – Update #1

Hello efabless community

Its been a busy week at efabless. We are very excited to see the community involvement and because this is our first challenge we are sending the update to all our community members. We currently have more than 40 active solvers participating in the challenge.

If you need any help, we are just a click away, using the “Help” button in Opengalaxy. There is a “Take Screenshot” camera icon on the right hand side. Please click it when filing tickets, this helps us resolve the issues you may be facing. You can also access some of the simulation how-to articles on our Knowledge Base

Thank you for all your feedback and suggestions, keep them coming, we appreciate it very much.

Upcoming Event

The mouse cursor lags a lot as I navigate through the Electric GUI using Chrome.
Could the Stylish plug-in work with the design toolbox interface?
The keyboard commands are working fine though and the experience is great so far.
Nice work from the efabless team!

    Cheers,
    Justin

      Hi Justin,
In future, we hope to be able to reduce latency of the user-experience, for users in/near asia.

Frankly browser plugin compatibility is not a top priority for our services. Case by case, changes would be considered to improve user experience. Yet we welcome all user’s feedback on plugin experiences; also in order that we may summarize same for our community.

However, toolbox:Design/Verify is primarily ‘just’ a remote-desktop viewer in a browser, of a remote Unix-XFCE desktop. Your browser’s styling has no influence. While XFCE itself supports user customizations, again this is not a priority for our services and we welcome your feedback; but most importantly:

      1. By XFCE customization: You may easily get an unusable desktop, requiring our intervention to fix.
      2. Our fix is by-design to ‘reset’ your Unix account: losing all Unix-account customizations.

To emphasise: In the Design/Verify Unix account, ONLY your ~/design/* content (the design subfolder) is persistent/preserved. Not the home-dir ‘dot-files’ where XFCE customizations are stored.

Also major system upgrades (like to address your latency) or unplanned services outage may rarely require downtime of Design/Verify, and effectively also ‘reset’ your UNIX account.
      Thanks for your feedback.

        Hello Risto,

Haha.. no biggie. Thanks for the reply.

I’m thinking of just creating a netlist on the offline version of Electric, then pasting the contents on the clipboard, then creating a netlist on the ~/design/ (pasting the contents) and just loading it.
I guess it is because I’ve used TightVNC and Xming before and the feel wasn’t the same (network speed, etc.etc.).

Yes, the UI is not really a big concern. The lag is indeed caused by latency/network problems.

        Happy holidays,
        Justin
